UTD to work with Chinese university on nanotech
Dallas Business Journal
The University of Texas at Dallas has signed an agreement with Jilin University in northeastern China to collaborate on academic projects, particularly in the growing nanotechnology field.
The agreement, reached earlier this month when a delegation from UTD and Jim Von Ehr, chairman of Richardson-based Zyvex Corp., went to Changchun, China, will allow research scientists and students from both institutions to share information.
The delegation was in China because the Chinese school named its nanotechnology institute for Alan G. MacDiarmid, the 2000 Nobel laureate in chemistry who recently joined UTD as a distinguished scholar in residence. MacDiarmid also is chairman of UTD's NanoTech Institute's advisory board.
UTD officials said this may be the first time a Chinese university has named an academic and research center for a someone who isn't Chinese.
Nanotechnology is the fabrication of devices or structures on an atomic or molecular level.
UTD opened its nanotechnology research institute this fall. Web site: http://www.utd.edu.
